A Gift of Life: Telesair Donates
State-of-the-Art High Flow Nasal Cannula Therapy Devices to
Breath of Life
August 25, 2021
Telesair, a medical device manufacturer based in Irvine, California, has committed to donating 100 units of its High Flow Nasal Cannula Oxygen Therapy devices to Breath of Life to help with increasing needs for respiratory products in developing nations and under-resourced communities.
Telesair’s chair, Ken Wang, and CEO Bryan Liu announced the donation, which will take place over the remainder of this year.
Steve Tunnell, a registered respiratory therapist and co-founder/leader of Breath for Life and its initiatives explained the impact the gift can have clinically in the treatment of people infected with COVID-19.
“High Flow Nasal Cannula Oxygen Therapy has become an increasingly important therapy to treat patients suffering from hypoxic respiratory failure,” said Tunnell. “Conventional low flow oxygen devices and even non-invasive ventilation have not shown superiority to the High Flow Nasal Cannula. High Flow Oxygen Therapy provides Oxygen flows that more closely match the demands of patients suffering from low blood oxygen levels and the requisite high demands to breathe. Clinical literature has demonstrated a statistically significant difference in ventilator-free days and 90-day mortality in patients with severe hypoxic respiratory failure when compared to conventional oxygen therapy and non-invasive ventilation.”
“A gift such as Telesair’s is definitely needed on the front-lines of these struggling regions and will be appreciated by the physicians battling COVID-19’s attack on the respiratory system,” added Tunnell.
Breath for Life, a non-profit consortium of concerned medical and technical professionals and philanthropists formed to address the ongoing and increasing needs for respiratory products in developing nations such as India, to assist healthcare workers and physicians in managing critically ill patients suffering from COVID-19. Donations of medical supplies, shipping, and logistical assistance are also needed.
